FSMA Celebrates Graduation of Skilled Solder Trainees

Tampa, FL, June 20, 2017 – Florida Suncoast Manufacturers Association today celebrated the recent completion of a solder training program that taught youth and individuals soldering skills and techniques that are utilized in the manufacturing processes for electronic products.
Manufacturers in Central Florida have an urgent need for qualified personnel who could solder to the IPC J-STD Specialists. To meet this need the Science Center, with the support of WorkNet Pinellas collaborated with Florida Suncoast Manufacturers Association to establish a new solder training program providing IPC Specialist Certifications to the graduates.
“Soldering was a clearly identified workplace skill for our manufacturing organizations,” says Jerry Custin, president of FSMA. “The association was honored to collaborate on this project with our community partners to assist with this workforce challenge.” Custin added that the success of the soldering initiative exemplifies how the community partners can quickly respond to addressing unique workplace needs.
